If you look closely at the values, lessons, and ideals, consider the currently taught by many today, we might discover that these lessons are not new, they are not original. It is my firm belief that all spiritual ideals, philosophical, social and illuminations from the past and simply rearranged and rewritten in order to adapt to modernity. It is in this spirit that I have my gratitude for this letter of thanks to express one of the ancestors of most of the values ??we hold to this day, the Roman philosopher Seneca the Younger want.
Dear Seneca
The ancient philosophy taught you during your time proved to be relevant in the modern wisdom. I for my part, moved by your teachings and attempts by the values ??that you live to write extensively on a number of your essays and letters. This letter of thanks for this.
One of my personal favorites is when you “poor devil, whose appetite tempted by expensive food,” which he wrote on the notion that true wealth can never be measured by simple possession, but to do with the time and opportunity, what youwant to make a difference and take control of your own life. It is a philosophy developed by the author Tim Ferris (the other people I appreciate and follow-up) assumed in his book, the working week to 4 hours. Knowledge of the truth in this concept has little to my own approach to what is important in my life and how I should manage my time affected.
I find it just as much fun to make your idea that happiness and contentment do not lie in the pursuit of extravagance or, as many material goods to pile up well, but is rather in temperance, experience and enlightenment through education. I think it is certainly appropriate, perhaps even more in the world we live in today, where people seem to equate success, more of everything that can be bought. Live my life with your idea certainly has made me more content.
There are many forms of happiness, success and quality of life, which today are taught that in truth, I feel old all derivations of your teachings. I think it shows how we take the ancient wisdom like yours for granted. So, if we always extend understanding of the concepts that govern our lives today, we must should our “thank you” to you to deal with much.
